Fender Tremolux Cabinet 1961 - Blonde RARE
1961 Fender Tremolux "Tone Ring" guitar cabinet. Very rare (we have two). Reportedly less than 200 of these were built, only in 1961, using the much-touted "Tone Ring" technology. Here's a descriptive quote from the "Fender Amps, the First Fifty Years" book:
"The new separate enclosure featured an elaborate porting system, with the stock speakers mounted in a metal tone ring that was attached to a separate inner baffle board. This, in turn, was mounted on the rectangular baffle board, which was flush with the rest of the cabinet. In mounting the inner board to the outer, air space was left on the sides for low frequency waves coming off of the back of the speaker to escape, hopefully in phase with the waves coming off of the front of the speaker. This "bass reflex" method improved low-frequency response greatly, allowing the player to back off the amplifier's Bass control, freeing up more power for the middle and high frequencies. The result was a loud, full-range, distortion free sound."
As you can see in the photos, the original 10" speaker has been replaced with an EV 12A three-way coaxial speaker, with a high-freq attenuator control on the back panel. The metal tone ring is missing, but the double baffle is intact, as is the blonde tolex and chrome tilt legs. The grill cloth is in good condition.
Until we are able to locate proper shipping boxes for these cabinets, these will be local pickup only.
